What to wear when you are shopping
When I was diagnosed with breast cancer, my family said to me, “Let’s plan a holiday for when you are better. Where do you want to go?” It didn’t take me long to answer – Hawaii! Not only am I the biggest Magnum P.I. fan on the planet, but experiencing the volcanos, Pearl Harbour and a bona fide luau were high on my bucket list. It’s not surprising I picked this destination.
The planning proved to be a very good distraction while having surgery. Laying in that hospital bed reading travel brochures was a pleasant way to pass the time between visitors or medical checks. The nurses would quiz me on the places I had read about or tell me stories of when they went to Hawaii.
It’s now been 18 months since I kicked cancer’s butt, so Hawaii here I come! I’ve never been to Hawaii before. I leave on Boxing Day for 8 days and I’m having a luau for New Year’s Eve. What a way to bring in the new year! I am spending a day at the volcanos, doing a Magnum P.I. helicopter trip over ‘Robin’s Nest’, a day on the North Shore swimming with turtles and seeing those big surfing waves, and a very moving day at Pearl Harbour. I am told that the shopping over there is pretty good too. How could I go and NOT do a shopping trip on one of the days I’m in Waikiki? Which prompted the question – What do people wear when they spend the day shopping?
I find that a T-shirt dress a very good option while shopping as it’s easy to slip on and off in the change rooms, or you can pull on shorts or pants underneath and not take it off at all if you are trying on just bottoms. Comfortable shoes are a definite must! You’ve got to look after your feet when you are on them all day trying to find that bargain!
Today I test-drove my Hawaii shopping outfit, and I got to say, it worked pretty well. I wore this striped T-shirt dress from Target, teamed with my denim vest from Rockmans (mine is a few years old now), and my PENNi shoes from Frankie4 Footwear (cushioned soles make all the difference!! If you haven’t tried these shoes yet, you are missing out!!). Dress it up with a little gold jewellery, et voila – one shopping trip outfit!
What do you find best when having a day at the shops? Let me know in the comments. Or perhaps you have some suggestions for my upcoming shopping trip in Hawaii. I’d love to hear them, Sistas!
