Sleepwear you’ll be happy to be caught wearing!
With only 1 week to go before I leave for Hawaii, it’s time to organise that wardrobe and get packing. I’m kicking things off with some sleepwear that I will be taking with me.
Sleepwear is something that can be a little difficult to acquire if you are a curvy person. It either looks like a sack, has no shape, clings to you in places you don’t want it to, doesn’t cover the right way, is ugly, or is uncomfortable to sleep in. It’s like they think that all people that are plus-sized have the same curves in the same places when it simply isn’t true. We are all different shapes and sizes. Some of us are bigger in the bust. Others are bigger in the bottom. Others are bigger in the upper legs. Some of us have a few rolls in the middle we would just rather not see. It can make finding the right sleepwear a painful and lengthy event.
When travelling, there is also a good chance that you are going to be seen in your pyjamas by your travel buddies, so you want to look half descent in them when they spot you with that bed hair in the morning! That faded pair of cotton sleeping shorts and thinning tee isn’t going to cut the mustard in public. Add in the fact that in some cultures (like the US), the wearing of a robe is the custom when you might be opening that door to get your room service.
For these reasons, I decided to not buy ‘off the rack’ at a department store for my sleepwear this trip. Instead, I sourced a small, local sleepwear company to make me my new custom-fit pyjamas (well, the bottoms and robe at least).
I’d like to introduce you to Jacaranda Lane. A Brisbane based company run by the lovely Helen Lane. Jacaranda Lane make sleepwear and lingerie for ladies sizes 18-28. As the home page to the website states, it is comfortable and looks great. All garments are also made of natural fibres so it is breathable, feels good against the skin and absorbs moisture. If you are a recovering breast cancer patient like myself, this is important when experiencing those hot sweats at night that post-cancer medications give us.
I’ve opted for the Hot Pink PJ shorts and the matching bird robe. I don’t often go pink, but when I saw this pattern of cherry blossoms and birds, I just fell in love with it.
At this stage, Jacaranda Lane don’t have any matching shirts or tanks to go with this print, so I’ve teamed this combo with a blue t-shirt from Regatta at Myers. I tried to match the cobalt blue in the birds’ feathers (seems to be a ‘go to’ colour of mine), but you could equally team it with white or a dark teal.
As all products at Jacaranda Lane are made to order, my shorts were tailored to the length that I wanted them. I’m a person who doesn’t like shorts on or past my knee, so I found this service a good thing. My robe length and sleeve length were also tailored to the length that suited the comfort of my arms and the length of the shorts.
As you can probably tell, I am very happy with my new sleepwear. They have coloured my bedroom wardrobe nicely. Thanks Helen! I don’t think I can wait until Hawaii to try them out. I might just have to start wearing them a week early! What do you think, Sistas?!

You are most welcome, Helen. I don’t think I was spotted wearing it while here in Hawaii (not sure if that’s good or bad, lol). But my family did spot it at Christmas time. My sister LOVES floral AND pink so it was a winner with her! 🙂
