Winter Layering
Layering is an essential part of the winter wardrobe. It’s all about pairing different kinds of clothes together to create a warm, thrown-together look that seems effortless yet very fashionable. In theory, it’s pretty simple: add a cardigan over a basic tee with a scarf and a pair of jeggings, or pair a dress with a blazer or vest and some leggings.
But the big questions is: What winter layering essentials should you have in your wardrobe? Here are my ‘Top 10’ that I cannot live without:
- Well-fitting jeans or jeggings
- Thin 3/4 or full sleeve basic tees
- Leggings in dark colours such as black/navy/charcoal
- Coat – either a dark colour or a bright fun colour
- Sleeveless print tunics
- Denim jacket
- Tailored blazers
- Chambray/T-shirt dress
- Scarves
- Cardigan/vest/cape/poncho
Some of these things in the photo I actually own. Others are good examples of the staples for winter layering and are similar to what I personally own.
There are also a number of accessories or tricks you can add to give a little edge to your outfit. Try adding:
- Ankle or knee high boots
- A belt – either thick or thin
- A knitted beanie/beret/felt hat
- Roll up your sleeves so the under layer can be seen over the top layer
- Warm socks that peep out the top of your boots
Of course it doesn’t have it to cost you a fortune to set up your winter wardrobe when you shop at somewhere like the FAB 14 Plus Markets in Brisbane. This is a market specifically designed to cater for the curvy woman by specialising in pre-loved clothing for sizes 14 and above. There are even a few start up businesses show casing their new clothing for this size range. You never know what treasures you will find for a fraction of the price of buying it brand new and in store.
You can see me at the next market on Saturday June 25th 2016 between 9:30am – 11:30am to help you find these essential pieces or to offer a little style advice.
So tell me sistas, what is your winter “must have” item of clothing? Maybe there’s something you would add to this capsule. What would it be?
