5 Tips On How To Wear Double Denim – Your Denim On Denim Style Guide
To double denim or not double denim, that is the question! Once deemed a cardinal sin, the denim on denim look is rather on trend at the moment (one I’ve only recently embraced myself) and it’s not going anywhere in a hurry.
But how do you put the look together without looking you have time warped back to the 80s or 90s? I’ve put together these 5 double denim style tips in order to make it easier to take the plunge into the world of denim on denim.
1. If you are a double denim beginner, before busting out the blues, try pairing different denim colours together first. Try something like a pair of black denim jeans with a white denim jacket or a chambray shirt. You can’t really go too wrong.
2. Don’t wear denim that is all the same weight or wash. You don’t want to look too matchy-matchy. Wearing different shades of denim can also flatter, hide or accentuate certain parts of the body. As a general rule, lighter shades of denim draw attention to certain parts of the body and darker shades tend to hide or create a slimming effect. For women, this tends to mean darker shades look better on the bottom and lighter shades are better on top (for men, it’s the reverse).
Wearing a Rockmans BeMe denim shirt, Big W basic white 3/4 sleeve tee and necklace, Crossroads jeggings and Frankie4 Footwear KELLiE boots.
3. Avoid loose or baggy fits on the bottom. Again, this has more of a slimming effect. Darker skinny jeans or jeggings are perfect bottoms for the double denim look.
Wearing a Millers denim shirt, Big W necklace, City Chic Dismantle skinny jeans and Frankie4 Footwear KELLiE boots.
4. Don’t be afraid to dress up your double denim. Smarten up your look rather than looking casual. Accentuate with lux-looking items such as a pair of heels, a blazer, a scarf, a basics undershirt, a printed shirt, statement jewellery pieces, or even a great shade of lipstick. Break it up with a belt is also a good way to smarten your denim on denim up. However, don’t go overboard. Keep it polished yet basic.
5. Don’t wear denim accessories. Keep the denim to your outfit. Do not extend to your hat, handbag, shoes, scarves or any other accessories. Just say NO!
So what do you think? Are you ready to jump in and give the double denim look a try? You may not get enough of it once you try it! You might like to experiment with skirts, overalls or even printed denim. Perhaps you have tried TRIPLE DENIM!!! Maybe you have another tip for wearing denim on denim?
