Wardrobe Wednesday

Welcome to the very first fashion post for SWS. The first of many I hope. This Wednesday, I’m wearing something that 12 months ago, I probably would not have had the confidence to wear… a light coloured T-shirt dress with narrow stripes! But I find it’s all in how you wear it.

When I wear white or cream against my platinum bleach blonde hair, I find that sometimes it’s just a little too much white altogether. It looks like a wall of white and my face either gets lost or washes out. The same thing happens if I wear a white panama style hat. But I have discovered that I can wear white or cream if I use one little tip… break up the colour with something else. When you break the eye line with either a vest, cardigan, bolero, belt, or even a necklace, it tricks the eye into thinking there are smaller sections to your wardrobe, rather than seeing a whole big panel of white. You face no longer gets lost in a sea of white/cream.

In today’s example, I am wearing a striped T-shirt dress from Bohemian Traders. Now, normally, pale coloured T-shirt dresses can look like a shapeless sack on me, but this one is very well made, a good cut, and when teamed with a few accessories to break the colour wall, receives many compliments from the ladies at work. I have teamed this dress with my Rockmans denim vest (a few seasons old now, but have linked a Rockmans current season alternative for you), a brown belt (cannot remember where I got this belt but it’s just a cheap one), long gold necklace from Lovisa, and bangle set from Big W. Shoes are from K-Mart (all of these are from a season or two ago). I am also wearing my Fitbit ChargeHR in this pic. I much prefer this Fitbit over others as it has the built in heart rate monitor and a buckle like a watch strap so I know it won’t fall off.

You may have also spotted 2 other things I am wearing today. The first is my poppy for Remembrance Day. It looks quite striking against the denim. The second is my compression garment on my arm. I wear this daily due to the fact that my breast cancer had spread to my lymph nodes in my right arm and they had to be surgically removed when they cut the cancer out. To avoid lymphedema, I wear the garment. As you can see, it is a skin colour. It’s amazing how many people don’t even notice it until I mention it in conversation, so it doesn’t bother me when I wear it as it blends right in. Did you spot it? As time goes on, I may talk more about these compression garments and why they are used.

So let me know in the comments below what are your thoughts on wearing white or cream. How do you accessorise?

As for wearing stripes… that’s a conversation for another blog!
