Fun in the Sun

Living in Australia, we are very aware of the effects of the sun on our skin. There’s not just the immediate issues like redness, pain, peeling skin or even blistering. But also long term issues such as premature aging and skin cancer. Did you know that it only takes an average of 12 minutes for someone’s skin to burn in the Australian sun without any sunscreen or sun protection? 12 minutes! It take cookies longer to cook in the oven!

But to someone who has been through chemotherapy and/or radiation (particularly radiation), it is actually much less than 12 minutes. Their skin is much more susceptible to damage from the sun than before they had treatment. I’ve certainly noticed it this summer with travelling to a tropical destination. It’s never been so important to look after my skin whilst out in the sun and make sure it doesn’t get burnt.

That’s why there is only one sunscreen I trust for such a job. Nutrimetics SUN DAYS 50+ sunscreen is my sunscreen of choice. It comes in a spray and a face block and I find it not as greasy as some sunscreens. I have used these products for many years, even when it only came in 15+ and then 30+ (and they were brilliant even back then). I have NEVER been burnt while using this sunscreen. My sister, who was once a life saver and is now a paramedic, has even said that it’s the only sunscreen she’s never been burnt with while on beach patrol.

The spray bottle is very convenient. It’s a pump spray so it’s not harmful to the environment and it makes application so much easier, especially if you are trying to put the cream on solo. It also makes it less likely to bust or leak in your bag, therefore it’s good for kids to take to school on swimming days or to take when travelling. I, personally, don’t use the face block (30+) very much as I find the spray (50+) works well on my face. However, if you have children, the face block is much more suited to the young skin on their faces.

After you have finished in the sun, there is the Nutrimetics SUN DAYS after sun moisturiser. It is an ultra-light body cream containing essential oils that soften, cool and replenish moisture to dry, sun-exposed or damaged skin. It is a great lotion to hydrate and sooth skin, even if it’s not burnt. Many people do not realise that it is very important to put back the moisture your skin lost while out in the sun, even if you didn’t get burnt. This will help prevent premature aging.

Of course, sunscreen can be a personal thing. Nutrimetics SUN DAYS feels good on my skin and works well for me. You may try it and not agree with me. Perhaps it is too greasy for you. That’s something for you to decide. If you want to give this brand a try, Nutrimetics offer a 60 day money back guarantee or exchange. They are a very good company for that sort of thing.

So remember…. whether you want to work on that tan at the beach or just heading outside for a spot of gardening, remember to slip, slop, slap, slurp and slide – slip on a shirt, slop on some sunscreen, slap on a hat, slurp fluids and slide on some sunglasses!

Enjoy Sistas!
